Tab Nap Privacy Policy

This policy describes the data handling of Tab Nap version 1.0.2, a Chrome extension that puts inactive tabs to sleep to help reduce browser memory use.

Information handled by the extension

Tab Nap accesses and processes the following information locally in your browser:

Tab Nap does not read webpage bodies, form contents, passwords, cookies, or personal messages. It does not access Chrome's stored browsing-history database.

Storage and retention

Preferences, exclusions, and Sleep page recovery information are kept in chrome.storage.local in your browser profile. Per-tab activity timestamps are kept in chrome.storage.session; they are removed when tabs close and are cleared with the browser session. The recovery list is refreshed during periodic scans and after extension actions, so closed Sleep page entries may remain until the next refresh.

In Sleep page mode, the original address and title are also present in the extension page's URL while the tab is sleeping. Chrome may retain tab or navigation information under its own browser settings and data-management behavior.

Tab Nap does not use chrome.storage.sync and does not operate a server that receives this information.

How information is used and shared

Information is used solely to provide Tab Nap's tab sleeping, exclusion, display, and restoration features. Tab Nap has no analytics, advertising, or telemetry and does not send the information described above to the developer or an analytics service. The developer has no remote access to the extension's locally stored data.

Restoring a sleeping tab opens its original website in Chrome. That website's normal data handling is governed by its own privacy policy. Site-icon retrieval uses Chrome's favicon functionality and follows Chrome's browser behavior.

Tab Nap does not sell user data, use it for advertising, use it for unrelated purposes, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Tab Nap's use of information received from Google APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your controls

You can change preferences and website/page exclusions in the extension popup. You can restore sleeping tabs with Wake All before removing the extension. Removing the extension removes its extension-managed local storage; browser-managed history and session records are controlled separately through Chrome's settings.
